My wax encaustic and mixed media pieces are inspired by my observations of atmospheric and chemical reactions. Although I consider them to be non-representational pieces, many were influenced by storm clouds, smoldering sunrises, smoke, rust and oxidation. I am drawn to these elements because I believe parallels can be drawn between these transformations and to the dramatic changes we make in our own lives.
I have found that the most turbulent times in my life have also brought about the greatest catalyst for change and growth. Although some of the pieces are reminiscent of dark and brooding storm clouds, there is a glow of hope, light and stillness that emerges from the chaos and uncertainty that surrounds. My paintings are a representation of moods inspired by the textures and light of our surroundings on grand and microscopic levels.
The paintings vary in size. Most are on Masonite and some are on canvas. They are made with layers of oil paint, beeswax, encaustic, and shellac.
